Japan’s Foreign ministry full statment:
On April 6, from 7:00 p.m. for 30 minutes, Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi held a telephone conversation with the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Seyed Abbas Araghchi.
- At the beginning, Foreign Minister Araghchi gave an explanation of the current situation in Iran and Iran’s position.
- In response, Minister Motegi expressed deep concern about the prolonged exchange of attacks and reiterated Japan’s consistent position that the swift resolution of the situation is of paramount importance. He also urged the countries involved to seriously engage with the diplomatic efforts currently underway. In addition, he strongly requested that the safety of all vessels, including those related to Japan, be ensured in the Strait of Hormuz.
- Furthermore, Minister Motegi reiterated his request for the swift release of the Japanese national currently detained in Iran. In response, Foreign Minister Araghchi stated that he takes the request very seriously.
- The two foreign ministers agreed to continue communication in order to bring the situation under control as soon as possible.
